How to Organize Your Child Support Records for Your Attorney

If you're involved in a custody or support modification case, your attorney will likely ask for proof of your payment history. Disorganized records slow things down and can hurt your case. Here's how to organize them.

Chronological Order

Courts and attorneys work best with chronological records. Log each payment on the date it was made, and export a spreadsheet that sorts by date. That way, your attorney can quickly see your payment pattern over time.

Include Key Details

For each payment, record: amount, date, recipient, and payment method. If you paid by check, include the check number. If you have a court case number, add it. These details help your attorney build a complete picture.

Attach Receipts

Photos of bank transfer confirmations, money orders, or check copies add credibility. When possible, attach a receipt to each payment record. The system timestamps the receipt capture, so there's no question about when it was documented.

Export in the Right Format

Most attorneys can work with a CSV spreadsheet or PDF. Export your full payment history as a CSV for their records, and use the PDF print feature for individual records if they need to submit specific entries to the court.

Alimony Tracker keeps everything in one place: log payments as you make them, and export when your attorney asks. No more digging through old statements.
